Strip-Cut Paper Shredders
Strip-cut paper shredders are the 'original' in paper shredding technology, and still one of the most popular for general-use shredding around the home and office. As their name suggests, strip-cut paper shredders destroy documents by slicing them into fine strips. Paper is fed into the feed tray and guided towards the rotating cutting blades. Once sliced, the paper strips are then filtered out into a shred bin for compression and final disposal.
For use around the home or in a home office where volume of paper to be shredded is low, manufacturers offer small lightweight strip cut shredders. These are small units that fix over the top of your waste paper bin, so shredded material falls directly into it. For more demanding volumes or where you need a higher level of security, manufacturers offer standalone units from fax machine size right up to the equivalent size of a large cabinet.
Strip cut paper shredders also come in a variety of shred sizes. Typical machines offer shred cuts of 3/8" down to 1/16", although most are manufactured to a specific fixed shred size.
Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Buy A Strip-Cut Paper Shredder
- Ease of Use- Strip cut paper shredders are so popular because they are very easy to use. Just feed the paper and let the machine do the rest! There's no need for any complicated installation procedures, and the most time-intensive operation is emptying the shred bin!
- Low Maintenance- As the internal mechanism of a strip-cut paper shredder relies on a series of blades to rotate, there is very little that can go wrong with the machine (unless you burn the motor out through overuse!). The only maintenance required will be periodic cleaning and oiling of the blades.
- Shredding Efficiency- As the blades on a strip-cut shredder only slice paper in one direction, generally document destruction is quicker than when put through a cross-cutting shredder of similar capacity. This makes the job of shredding much more efficient, creating savings in time.
- Cost Effective- Strip-cut shredders are a very cost effective option for many people, as when compared to a cross-cut shredder of similar capacity it is often substantially cheaper to buy, maintain and run. Coupled with their excellent shredding efficiency, which in itself creates cost savings as a result of time saved, it is easy to see why strip-cut shredders are so popular!
- Good Security- Although not offering the same degree of security as cross-cut shredders do, strip-cut shredders can hold their own when it comes to safely and responsibly disposing of important documents. Shred widths down to 1/16" are available from many manufacturers, which is good enough to destroy confidential documents without any worries.
